About the JCC

Membership

All alumni of City of London School are now automatically Associate Members of the John Carpenter Club. This means that you are welcome at all our events no matter whether you have previously thought of yourself as a member or not.  

Full Membership is open to all former pupils and staff of CLS. The subscription is £10 per annum, payable by bankers order only. Alternatively we have a 15 year 'Period' membership for £112.50, which may appeal more to those overseas.

The John Carpenter Club (Old Citizens Association)

The John Carpenter Club (JCC) is the alumni, or Old Boys’, association for the City of London School. Don’t be confused - Old Boys from the School are known as Old Citizens, whether they’re aged 18 or 80! Originally the JCC was a dining club separate from the Old Citizens’ Association, but many decades ago the two organisations came together under the JCC banner. Today the JCC coordinates all aspects of Old Citizen activity and the President of the JCC represents Old Citizens at School and other official events.   The JCC has a number of functions:

Stakeholder in the School

One thing unites members of the JCC and that’s a respect for the quality of education that we all received at the School. The JCC helps to ensure that this quality of education is sustained and continues to be available to as wide a selection of talented students as possible. JCC members contribute to the School’s Bursary scheme, assist with careers events, and support the development of the School through regular contact with the Headmaster, students, Staff and the Friends. There are Old Citizens in many different industries and professions, and members of the Club can offer useful information and contacts to current students and recent leavers in a variety of business sectors. The Club holds several social and networking events, including annual dinners for professional groups, such as lawyers and doctors, and the annual lunch for School leavers.   Old Citizens interested in networking with others, and/or in talking to CLS students about their career choices, should contact the School Alumni Engagement Officer and join www.citizensconnect.co.uk, the School's alumni networking platform.

Social club

The JCC offers numerous opportunities for Old Citizens to stay in touch, meet, exchange stories and generally reminisce.  The various organisations within the JCC hold a number of dinners and other social events each year. These are frequently reported in ‘The Gazette’, which is the JCC's magazine. The Gazette carries a wide variety of news and information about Old Citizens' and School activities. 

Sports club

There are a number of Old Citizen sports clubs, and they provide a ready-made environment in which enthusiastic (if not highly skilled!) sportsmen can continue to participate in their chosen sport, often competing alongside their contemporaries, sometimes with Old Boys who are decades removed in vintage!

The President

The President of the JCC is elected annually at the AGM each November. His principal role is to ensure that the Club maintains close contact with the School and keeps up-to-date with the School’s strategy and current priorities. He attends all the School's major functions, and chairs the JCC General Committee.

The Boring Stuff

Under Rule 4(e) of the Club's Rules any former pupil who supplies personal data to the Club automatically becomes an Associate Member of the Club.

By volunteering personal data to the Club or by responding to this or any other communication from the Club you are an Associate Member of the Club on a continuous basis.

The John Carpenter Club is exempt from the provisions of the Data Protection Act to the extent that its members do not object to their personal data (name, address, profession, qualifications, subscription records etc) being held on the Club's computerised database.

The data is stored as a Register of Old Citizens, solely for the private use of members. Any member who does so object should notify the Alumni Office.
