Make it your Legacy Make it your Legacy

Thursday, 6/9/2022

It may not be an easy subject to think about, but leaving a Legacy in your Will can change lives long into the future.  Even a small the amount can help us give yet another boy with exceptional potential from a modest background access to the opportunities and facilities offered by the School.

Once you have provided for your family and friends perhaps you would consider providing a gift in your Will to support future generations.  A Legacy to a Charity is very tax-efficient as such sums fall outside your estate for Inheritance Tax purposes.  For deaths on or after 6 April 2012, a reduced Inheritance Tax rate of 36% applies where the deceased has left 10% or more of his net estate to charity.

Leaving a Gift in Your Will

If you'd like to leave a gift to the Asquith Bursary Scheme in your Will to enable us to fund further bursaries, we suggest you use one of the following sets of wording. Please remember to include our full name and registered Charity number.

For a pecuniary legacy(a specific sum), the following wording should be used:

"I give to the City of London School War Memorial Fund, the Charity of the John Carpenter Club (registered Charity number 325131), the sum of …….. "

For a residuary legacy (leaving the residue of your Estate, i.e. what remains after debts and liabilities have been met and all pecuniary and specific gifts have been paid, wholly or partly to the Charity), the following wording should be used:

“I give all the residue of my Estate to the City of London School War Memorial Fund, the Charity of the John Carpenter Club (registered Charity number 325131).”

You should of course always consult a professional, independent, adviser when drawing up your Will.
