Asquith-City Bursary Scheme

In my January 2009 letter, enclosed with the Spring Gazette, I said that we were tantalisingly close to having sufficient funding to replace our original seven year Bursary.

A number of OCs very generously responded and we were able to advise the Headmaster that there was sufficient funding for a new seven year half-Bursary.  He used one of his sources of Matched Funding to top it up to a full Scholarship, and a boy started at CLS in September 2009.

That means I have an opportunity to set a new challenge for myself, and of course for the JCC!  Can I/we gather together sufficient support to fund a third half-Bursary?

To provide the necessary £6,000 a year requires just forty OCs to agree to pay as little as £10 a month for seven years.  For every pound you give we now get an additional 25 pence from the Gift Aid tax credit and the Headmaster then finds Matching Funds to take your £1 up to £2.50.

Members who would prefer to make a lump sum contribution could give a multiple of £840 (seven years at £10 a month), and those who prefer annual payments could give multiples of £120 (twelve months at £10).

Contributing to a Bursary is one of the most valuable ways we OCs can give something back to our School. This is particularly true if you were yourself in receipt of a Scholarship or Bursary when you attended CLS. Without the generosity of previous benefactors, or even the ratepayer (sadly no longer contributing), you would not now be reaping the benefit of a CLS education.

Please download this combined Gift Aid and Bankers Order form, complete and return it to me at the address quoted. With your help, I'm sure we can find the funding for a third boy to enjoy an exemplary education.

The recipient of our first Bursary, now studying engineering at University, has expressed his gratitude thus:
"The JCC scholarship has been really helpful to me. It has been such a great experience and I am very happy that I was given the opportunity. I have met all sorts of different people from different backgrounds, and such a school really opens your eyes to the real world from an early age. The location is fantastic and learning here has been a joy. I have been told on more than one occasion that I am a 'well-rounded young man', and I attribute that to my time at CLS."

Thanks for your support.
