Old Citizens past and present were remembered at this year's Prize Day, held on Monday, when the 21 JCC Junior 6th form Prizes were awarded during the ceremony.

Each prize bears the name of an eminent Old Citizen, renowned in a particular field, such as Steven Isserlis for music and Sir William Perkins for chemistry. Head of School, Nicholas Hulbert, made a great speech in praise of John Carpenter, and it was heartening to see so many boys receive prizes, despite having sore hands with all the clapping!
The week before last we held the first of our three Old Citizens' receptions in celebration of the School's 25th/175th anniversary. More than 100 OCs who left CLS in the 1960s and earlier arrived for the drinks reception, followed by a talk about the history of the buldings from Terry Heard, tours, and exhibition and videos. Thanks to those of you who wrote in saying how much they enjoyed the evening. Here are some of your comments:
"Thank your team for arranging a most enjoyable evening.Although I am frequently on site, one often "forgets" the history of CLS and so it was a pleasure to be reminded by Terry with some fascinating pictorial support. The evening also brought quite a few "out of the wood" and indeed I met two people that I had not seen since leaving CLS 45+ years ago!!"
“Terry Heard’s history talk was fascinating and my eyes are still wide open after touring the wonderful facilities the school now has. I have not been back to a CLS event for some 55 years but I was struck by the friendly atmosphere, which has always been the blessing for those attending the School.”
“It was amazing, and somewhat uncanny, to meet up with past members of one’s class over 40 years later !”
“It was very informative and good for us who have not really seen the school properly. A particular thanks to the Prefects for taking us round. It is good to know that the school is in such capable hands!”
“For me, and I guess all other attendees, it was a very special evening . I thoroughly enjoyed my time meeting up with folks, some I had not seen since leaving school in 1961, seeing the School and learning the history of the school buildings. This was a catalyst for five of the seven of us who were in the 1967 third year Maths 6th Senior to meet up together for the first time in 44 years.”
"Just to thank you for a great evening last Wednesday: it was good to see several old friends even if it is becoming harder to recognise them after 50+ years."
"I just wanted to thank you, and everyone else involved, for yesterday's reception. It was really enjoyable, there was a great atmosphere and everyone mingled and chatted. The tour of the school by Nicholas was first class, a very confident young man, he will go far! Although I did not meet any of my contemporaries, I met some very interesting people and I was so pleased to have had the opportunity to visit the 'new school'."
"I didn’t meet one Old Cit who wasn’t full of praise for the format and style of the evening. "
I will be making a start soon on looking at the video footage of the event so we try and produce a DVD for those of you unable to attend.
My thanks go also to the nine Old Cits who participated in the Finance Careers Workshop on 11 October. As always your advice and experience was much appreciated by the 5th and 6th form boys who attended.
